The Kansas tail wind

Well we left Colby this morning. Notice the correct spelling. We had the mayor stop in last night. The towns we go through are pretty small so when 100+ people roll in its a big deal. A young lady walked by us last night and asked what we were doing. After we explained the biking and poverty thing she said, welcome to drama town. Funny eh.
Well we leave one town with grain elevators, just to head to another one. The horizon is far and flat so the major things in the distance are grain elevators.
It's hard to see but just outside of town was a junk yard. Full of old gold. The sun was shimmering off the roofs of the cars.
Now is the time I'm thinking stop. But I take a couple of ride by pics. They look dark on my little phone.
The first 10 km is the usual side wind but we still make good time. We turn the corner and start riding with a tailwind. Now were booking it. 30-35 km per hour without struggling. The miles add up fast when your going that speed. The pic above is corn fields. In the distance you should be able to see a crop duster. Ill put another pic below.
The farms are huge and they have what seems to be random car engines running  on natural gas in the middle of nowhere. I'm assuming their irrigation pumps.
The crops are pretty far along here. Some of the corn has tassels on them. The wheat is already being harvested.
Here's a combine going at it.
While we were riding a big blade from a wind turbine came rolling by. This is my over the shoulder shot. Seems like the perfect spot for wind turbines. It hasn't been calm day or night since we got onto the plains.
Here's a pic of what looks like a Harold, but what it really is, is a pic of an old farm house and barn that is empty and slowly getting beat up by wind and rain. I guess it's Harold too.
The small towns we bike through have funny signs. This one says Czech us out. Another town was proud of their live auction champion caller, col. Something. I couldn't remember his name. So if you come from a town with someone famous, make a sign.
Finally we got into some rolling hills. The wind on our backs. We were climbing hills at 20-30 km per hour. Gotta love a tail wind. Loving the rolling hills and the different scenery.
Made it to prairie dog state park. Good thing cause I was prairie doggen it. No not really but I couldn't resist.
Well here's the view from the back of the gear trailer. It's the most water we've seen since the Pacific Ocean. I went for a dip in the lake and rinsed off with the shower. It felt great after a day of biking.
Today's bonus pic is a bunch of kids in the train massage.
See you tommorow   Len

  1. Hey Len - Hope you don't have the heat and humidity we are having here. The corn is growing a foot taller every day! Stay safe and may the wind be at your back in the days and weeks to come!
