Day 33 Grand Rapids to Carlton

Last nights peloton was fun. We announced the winners of the time trail.
We had a fun meeting. We handed out prizes. Candy bags Carrie picked up. It was a fun time.

Last night I sat in the lot  and listened to the stock car racing a few blocks away. It reminded me of being a kid laying in bed on Saturday night listening to the racing five miles away.

Breakfast this morning. I had the usual. Oatmeal with walnuts and a boiled egg.
A beautiful morning. The sun was shining and it was cool.
A great smooth road to start the day. It was a treat.
Passed a cool old barn.

First rest stop. Everyone was in great spirits.

Bruce joined us for the ride today.

We passed over the Mississippi.

It's not very big. Appeeently this is where it starts.

Another nice old barn.

Second rest stop came quickly. Smooth roads and nice conditions have that affect.

Lots  of water and more rolling hills today

We stopped in Floodwood for second breakfast.

We went past a couple of old cars that were for sale.

More hills. Not too hard to climb but still enjoyable to go down.
More water.
Marks salvage. I could spend a few hours in there.

Getting closer to camp. Seth and eve  sandbagging again.

Now that's s lawn ornament.

At camp relaxing after supper. Tomorrow is 169km.

Day32. Northome to grand rapids

So last night first. Appenrently the Dutch in the USA are a little further removed from there heritage then us Canadians.
This is my scientific experiment. I gave these two a dropie. As you can see there not sure.

Supper last night.

Everyone is looking for. Shade.

Breakfast this morning. The day of the race.

Off we go. Past the library next to the (library)

We passed by some lakes today. Quiet smooth roads. What an awesome day to cycle.

Deana, Bridget, and Anita. They sandbagged all the way to the first rest stop which was also the start of the time trial.

We gathered at the first stop when u were ready

Billy started you and wrote down your time.

At the other end of 10km Carrie would write your finishing time. It was a fun time. Totally the most accurate , inaccurate time trial ever.

Lots of happy and tired faces afterward.

Back on the road again.

Our next stop was right beside this lake.

We stopped for a nature break when Jim showed up with a shifting issue which we managed to fix.

As I was inspecting the plants I noticed one with a distinctive 5 leaf pattern. Any ideas?

Stuart and ed.

We had to do a little off roading today.

Last rest stop. Of the day.

Hey 2 into grand rapids was busy but had a nice shoulder.

Saw some nice old trucks in town

Appeeently there's a swap meet this weekend in town.

Lots of old stuff in town.

Staying at a school tonight. A lot of new members and support staff showing up today. We'll announce the winners of the time trial tonight at peloton. See you tomorrow. Len.

Day 31 Buedette to Northome

This morning we started off with breakfast.
We cleaned up and Ruben finished his sweeping duties. The sun was up and the long shadows were out.

Long straight roads with forest on both sides. As you can see Ruben is pumped up.

Lots of old tractors that are growing into the ground.

The first while the road was long and the fields are flat.

In the distance a bi plane is crop dusting.

A few guys fly fishing.

Ruben and Harold blew past the rest stop to get a pic of the plane. I guess when there are no towns and just trees and fields you have to take advantage of the sights.

Speaking of rare sightings. I felt like I was following a unicorn   ( George)

The crew and I took advantage of the unicorn sighting.

Another rest stop. You can see the panic when we show up. They all scramble to leave. I don't know why. We haven't had too many. Beans lately.

Peter and jack.
We rode along the edge of the upper red lake.
We stopped for fuel at the north country food and fuel. Apparently the do most of there business in the winter with ice fishing.
On the road again. We came upon a group.

Seth

Eve

Karen

I finally know where to find that red and white striped guy.

We came upon this plane along the road. It's got the crop dusting stuff on it.

Love the Pratt and witteny motor.

Billy dropped by to check on us

Is this not just like a painting.

Found this collection of art next to an old shop

Fishing.

Sawing logs.

Don't mess with this guy.

The bow hunter.

This is one messed up train
Last rest stop.
A Betty sighting.
120 km and done   A great day of riding with a great tail wind.  The days done like dinner. Len
